Popular Types and Uses for Labels
General Use Labels: These include bumper stickers and are available in shapes such as rectangular or square, with square or rounded corners, round, oval, or custom die cut.
These labels are available in several materials such as White or Yellow PMS 114 Vinyl, and Clear or Chrome Polyester. Available with or without protective over-lamination.
Static Clings: Use white or clear static material. Available with face or back static.
Labels for equipment, dumpsters or vehicles: These labels use specialty materials or adhesives in order to adapt to the demands of these kinds of applications.
Examples include specialty adhesive used on dumpsters and garbage or food trucks, specialty materials used for vehicle graphics that are durable for longer periods and resist gas spills, and UL equipment labels.
Other Specialty Labels include: Floor Graphics, Inventory Control Barcode Labels, Tamper-Evident Decals such as Voidable Chrome and Destructible White or Clear, Write-On Labels made of Embossable or Write-On Aluminum or White Vinyl, Identification Decals made of Chrome, Brushed Chrome or Gold Polyester, Reflective Decals for Police or Fire Graphics, Glow-in-the-Dark and Prismatic Decals, Domed Decals, Hard Hat or Helmet Decals, and Food and Beverage Decals.
Adhesives
Adhesive can be placed on the front or back of a label. The most popular adhesives are:
Permanent: Chosen for use in labels that need to remain on an item for a sustained period so that information remains on or with an item permanently. Most decals use a permanent adhesive.
Non-Permanent or Removable: Removable adhesive allows the label to be removed without leaving any residue. Eventually, if left on long enough, a removable adhesive will become permanent.
This depends on the environment the decal is used in but generally after approximately one year the adhesive will become permanent.
Static Cling Window Decals: These decals cling to surfaces with static electricity and are easily removed. Typically used on glass windows but will also work on plastic and metal.
Specialty Adhesives: Certain surfaces such as dumpsters, steel drums, or surfaces that are not smooth or blemish free, such as powder coated equipment, require a heavy-duty permanent adhesive.
Which Label is Right for Me?
The simple answer is that this will depend on your application. Will the label be used indoors or outdoors? How long will the label need to last? What surface will the label be applied to? Will the label be exposed to sun, rain, oil or other chemicals?
